In December 2015, the Northampton City Council unanimously passed a resolution calling for the welcoming of refugees in our community.
These refugees will come from Syria, Iraq, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo–and will need a safe, welcoming community in which to build a successful new life.
Through thoughtful, informed preparation, building of long term community-based support, and collaboration among community leaders, we can create the welcoming environment they need.
“There is no power greater than a community discovering what it cares about.”
— Margaret Wheatley
Catholic Charities, a Springfield-based social service and resettlement agency, is the contracted Reception and Placement agency and they will provide the services required upon arrival. However, if these families are going to be successfully embraced by our community, they will need more support.
It's important for us to come together as a community to welcome them to their new home.
