An open letter from the Mayor of Northampton:
As Mayor of the City of Northampton, I am extremely proud of our city's participation in "Welcome Home: Northampton's Refugee Resettlement Effort". Northampton has a long history of being a community dedicated to openness, acceptance, and diversity. We are excited to step up as a city in partnership with Catholic Charities to welcome international refugee families to the United States and the City of Northampton.
A proactive, action-oriented planning effort to welcome and support these new members of our community is well underway. There is a steering committee comprised of key stakeholders and several work groups who are diligently identifying "circles of care", employment opportunities, and temporary and permanent housing to support the families. Through a series of gatherings in local homes, public information sessions, and word of mouth, volunteers are coming forward to assist. There are many ways people can be involved. I hope you will join me in welcoming these refugee families to our community by showing them how wonderful calling Northampton home can be.
